ABOUT PEAK

Turning Passion Into Action

The challenges of today has seen the tourism industry be one of the greatest impacted with years of growth and positive outlook coming to a screaming halt.

The big question we're all now faced with is what will be the new normal? But the question should be, what is the best future we can craft? We see an amazing opportunity to address the issues tourism can carry socially, environmentally and culturally. the issues we've been discussing for decades.

On one hand we've seen the canals of Venice become clearer, sea turtles spotted laying eggs in Koh Samui for the first time in decades, destinations fighting over-tourism emptied and innovation flow through new ways of delivering experiences. However, and as National Geographic called it, there is now a major concern that COVID-19 could in fact end up harming the environment. As the world closed down, a relaxation on policies of our biggest polluters who are also some of our biggest employers, workers returning to traditional industries to survive causing faster uncontrolled deforestation, pollution, climate change and environmental impacts have bounced back well beyond pre-COVID-19 levels.

Our vision is to hold onto the positives while resurrecting the tourism economy stronger than ever. How? Through a purpose driven revolution. We recognise that purpose beyond profit can not only deliver a sustainable, resilient future but is a catalyst for a faster, stronger recovery.

Established off the back of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council's Lynette Bergin Fellowship, this portal has been developed to provide you with the tools, knowledge and confidence to evolve your business beyond profit and shape a healthier future. Connect with us to learn more and get involved.

BRENDAN SANDERS

Founder & Collaborator

Some of the greatest places I've been and had the pleasure to experience have been those I did not plan for. These moments are the memories I bring back and hold onto for life. Experiences that were built around the inner social, environmental and cultural fabric of a destination.

In 2019 I was awarded the prestigious Lynette Bergin Fellowship for my research proposal into how we can drive a sustainable tourism future through purpose beyond profit.

Holding over eight years of experience within the tourism industry, for both a leading regional destination and major Australian landmark, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), I understand the industry, the challenges and the opportunities.

In my current capacity as the Business Manager for the peak tourism body of Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula, I oversee the financial management, research, strategic planning and industry development ensuring our region flourishes as a sustainable destination into the future.
